New treatment for Osteoarthritis

The structure of the cartilage and the inflammatory aspects of osteoarthritis have been extensively studied. Recent developments have shown that the treatment can be accomplished by biological means and non surgical as viscosuplementation.

Viscosuplementation consists of intra-articular joint injection (without significant pain) of a gel that lubricates the joint and improves the viability of cartilage cells, with no significant setbacks or contraindications.

Espregueira- Mendes clinic has a wide experience using viscosupplementation injections (more than 12,000 injections to date) with excellent outcomes. Viscosupplementation relieves pain and provides a more comfortable level of activity, increasing the patient’s quality of life, and may even, in some cases, avoid the need for surgery.
