Hallux Valgus

Hallux Valgus / Bunions

The bunion, also known as hallux valgus is often described as a prominence on the lateral area of the hallux or big toe. But a bunion is more than that. The prominence actually reflects visible changes in bone structure of the front part of the foot.
The hallux is gradually changing its orientation leaning toward the 2nd toe.
This changes the alignment resulting in hallux valgus or bunion.

Joanetes; Hallux Valgus

Symptoms usually appear late in some cases no symptoms with only the deformity of hallux.

Causes

Bunions are often caused by an anatomical change and faulty foot mechanics. A bunion is a family incidence and certain foot types make the person prone to developing bunions.

The use of certain types of shoe may contribute to more rapid development of bunions.

The most common symptoms are:

Pain or tenderness

Inflammation and redness

Burning sensation

Numbness
